1. What are ASA archery targets?
ASA archery targets are realistic, life-size 3D animal targets designed for competitive archery tournaments and practice. Delta McKenzie manufactures the official 3D targets used in Archery Shooters Association (ASA) Pro/Am competitions. These targets feature lifelike animal details, durable foam construction, and competition scoring rings.
2. Are Delta McKenzie targets used in official ASA tournaments?
Yes. Delta McKenzie is the official 3D target manufacturer for the ASA Pro/Am Tour. Our competition-grade targets are used by professional and amateur archers in ASA tournaments across the country.
3. What is the difference between ASA targets and regular 3D archery targets?
ASA archery targets are designed for competitive shooting and feature official scoring areas, realistic animal anatomy, and durable foam construction. Unlike many recreational backyard targets, Delta McKenzie Pro 3D targets are built to withstand repeated tournament use and feature replaceable scoring cores.
4. Do ASA archery targets have replaceable cores?
Yes. Delta McKenzie Pro 3D ASA targets feature replaceable scoring cores that allow archers and clubs to replace the most heavily used portion of the target without purchasing an entirely new target. Replacement cores help extend target life and reduce long-term costs.
5. Where can I buy replacement cores for ASA 3D targets?
You can purchase replacement cores for many Delta McKenzie ASA 3D archery targets directly from dmtargets.com. Each replacement core is designed to fit a specific target model, so be sure to select the correct core for your target.
6. How does ASA 3D archery scoring work?
ASA 3D archery uses scoring zones worth 5, 8, 10, and 12 points, with a special 14-point ring used in designated competition situations. A missed target scores zero. Delta McKenzie ASA targets feature scoring rings that help competitive archers practice shot placement and prepare for tournament conditions.
7. Can I use ASA archery targets for backyard practice?
Absolutely. While Delta McKenzie ASA targets are designed for competitive archery, they are also excellent for backyard practice. Their realistic animal shapes and competition scoring rings help archers improve accuracy, shot placement, and confidence before their next tournament.
8. Can I shoot broadheads into Delta McKenzie ASA targets?
Delta McKenzie Pro 3D targets are designed to accommodate field points and broadheads. However, field points are recommended for regular ASA tournament practice because broadheads can shorten the lifespan of the target's scoring core.
9. What types of animals are available as ASA 3D archery targets?
Delta McKenzie offers a wide variety of realistic 3D animal targets used in ASA competitions, including whitetail deer, mule deer, bears, coyotes, wild boar, antelope, turkeys, and other North American and exotic animals. Target selections may change between tournament seasons.
10. Can ASA 3D archery targets be left outside?
Delta McKenzie recommends protecting 3D archery targets from prolonged exposure to the elements. Sunlight, rain, and changing weather conditions can fade the paint and shorten target life. Store targets indoors or in a covered area when not in use to help maintain their appearance and durability.
11. Are Delta McKenzie ASA targets suitable for archery clubs and tournament ranges?
Yes. Delta McKenzie Pro 3D targets are designed for competitive archery and are an excellent choice for ASA clubs, archery ranges, and tournament organizers. Their durable construction, realistic animal profiles, official scoring areas, and replaceable cores make them ideal for high-volume shooting environments.
12. What are universal scoring rings on Delta McKenzie 3D targets?
Universal scoring rings incorporate scoring zones used in both ASA and IBO archery competitions. This allows clubs and individual archers to practice for multiple tournament formats using the same compatible 3D target, eliminating the need for separate ASA and IBO targets.
